How a Coarse Area Works
Imagine laying a grid over a city. Your phone may know a more precise position, but the nearby-chat service converts it to a larger cell before using it for discovery. Several homes, shops, paths, and streets fall inside the same cell. The service can compare broad areas without presenting another user with the coordinate your phone originally measured.
