Whatever you send first, the other person will use it to decide how interesting you are and whether they want to keep talking. No pressure — but it matters a lot.
📐
The formula: hook + question.
Give them something to react to AND ask something they can answer. "I've been thinking about X lately — does that ever happen to you?" does both. One line, full invitation.
🎬
Avoid yes/no questions.
"Do you like movies?" can be answered with one word and the conversation stalls. "What's the last movie that actually stuck with you?" requires a real answer and immediately reveals something about them.
🧬
Show a personality in the opener.
Your first message should sound like you — with humour, a point of view, or genuine curiosity. Generic openers get generic responses. Specific and human gets specific and human.

Then let the conversation surprise you.
Once the door is open, stop following a script. Let it go wherever it goes. The best conversations are the ones that end up somewhere unexpected. Start one now on Chatrio.
