Empathy is possible through a screen.

People think empathy needs eye contact or touch. It doesn't. The right words at the right moment land just as deep.

🤝

Acknowledge before you advise.

When someone shares something hard, resist the urge to fix it. Say 'that sounds really rough' before anything else.

🪞

Use their words back.

Reflecting exactly what they said shows you heard it. 'So you felt invisible in that moment' is more powerful than any advice.

🙋

Ask, don't assume.

'Do you want to vent or do you want help thinking through it?' shows you care about what they actually need.

💙

Being heard is the gift.

Most people don't need a solution. They need to feel less alone with it. That's something text can absolutely give.
